As the year comes to its close, neighborhoods glisten with string lights, families come together in celebratory fashion, and we take this time to appreciate our membership as we set in place a foundation for a brighter year ahead. 

As we reflect on our successes as an association, we are also taking stock of how we can better serve our membership and our community at large. Every year brings new and different challenges, as technology advances our industry propelling us forward into unchartered territory. 

The technological advances in the construction industry call for, not only an inventory of what needs to adapt, but a demand for change in order to remain competitive in an ever-evolving landscape. With this in mind, we as an association are also evolving and want to include our membership in the process.

Technological adoption, and adaptation, are non-negotiables. This mindset shift in contractors is crucial, as understanding new processes isn't just an advantage but absolutely essential to surviving and growing as a company in a complex future. 

Some categories to assess and consider moving into the new year can be: 

• AI & Data: Using AI for predictive risk management, scheduling, project management optimization using AI to detect data errors early.

• Automation & Robotic: Deploying drones for monitoring and project analysis/visualization, using autonomous equipment to boost productivity and bridge labor gaps.

• Digital Twins & BIM: Utilizing advanced Building Information Modeling (BIM) and Digital Twins for optimal project management and visualization. AI can now scan BIM models for missing parameters, non-compliant standards, and errors, essentially acting as a quality check that can flag issues before they show up on a site.

These examples only begin to scratch the surface of technological innovation in our industry, yet the conversation is one that needs to be continued. Sustainability and material innovation, as well as financial agility, are other areas in which technology is being implemented for growth. 

However overwhelming these advances may feel for an industry that prides itself in tradition, efficiency has also remained a priority for contractors throughout history. Thankfully, we are an interwoven industry and have worked together as a unit since the beginning of time. With that being said, it is our mission to remain as one collective with our membership and move through these changes symbiotically. 

As we celebrate this holiday season, we wish you joy and peace. As we prepare for the new year, we look forward to welcoming novel ideas to become even a stronger industry in this new age of innovation. Together, we remain committed to creating a foundation that will endure the test of time. While embracing the freshness of the new year ahead with these reflections, we also take time to slow down now and appreciate the glow of the cozy season that is Christmas. We thank you for being a part of this association and look forward to strengthening our membership in the new year.
